Mission and Vision

DLeNM is a non-profit organization serving the professional and informational needs of New Mexican communities who wish to develop, refine and/or implement dual language education programs.

Vision

Dual Language Education of New Mexico was created to promote the proper growth of Dual Language Immersion Education Programs in New Mexico. Dual Language Education of New Mexico believes that Dual Language Education has the potential to prepare tens of thousands of Language Minority Students, as well as committed Language Majority Students, academically, linguistically and socially, for the challenges and needs of our global community.

Mission

To promote the effective design and implementation of dual language programs in New Mexico by:

Researching and developing appropriate standards or best practices for program design and implementation;
Providing on-going support to teachers, administrators, state agencies, districts and communities striving to meet these standards, and;
Educating the educational, business and political communities as to the effectiveness of these programs.

History

1997 – La Cosecha Dual Language Conference organized by teachers at Dolores Gonzales Elementary.
2000 – DLeNM was founded in response to requests for technical assistance by teachers & schools. Founding members: Gilberto Lobo, Dair Obenshain, Barbara Gabaldón & David Rogers.
2001 – DLeNM developed first program standards.
2003 – La Siembra organized to assist schools with planning and new program design.
2004 – El Enriquecer organized to assist programs with self-evaluating and improving program implementation.
2005 – First Dual Language Critical Institute. DLeNM hires an Executive Director.
2006 – Full menu of professional development opportunities is offered with full-time staff.
